Saudi Arabia and Qatar have taken a historic step toward transforming regional mobility as His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani witnessed the signing of the Saudi–Qatar High-Speed Railway Implementation Agreement.
The agreement signed by Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Saleh Al-Jasser and Qatari Minister of Transport Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani comes under the Saudi-Qatari Coordination Council, reinforcing the strong strategic, fraternal ties between both nations.
The 785-km electric high-speed railway will connect Riyadh and Doha, passing through Hofuf, Dammam, King Salman International Airport, and Hamad International Airport. With speeds exceeding 300 km/h, the new line will reduce travel time between both capitals to just two hours, significantly boosting mobility, tourism, trade, and quality of life.
Designed with the latest advanced railway technologies, the project is expected to be completed in six years, generating nearly SAR 115 billion in combined GDP impact. It will serve over 10 million passengers annually and create more than 30,000 direct and indirect jobs, supporting the region’s shift toward smart, sustainable transportation with reduced carbon emissions.
