The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has announced a strategic initiative to expand the exemption period for incoming empty containers at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam and Jubail Commercial Port, strengthening logistics capabilities and supporting national export competitiveness.
Under the new initiative, the storage fee exemption period for empty containers has been extended from 10 days to 20 days at both key Eastern Region ports. This policy encourages shipping lines to import and redirect empty containers to Saudi ports, boosting their continuous flow and availability for export operations a vital step in enhancing trade efficiency.
Mawani President Suliman Al‑Mazroua emphasized that the initiative will motivate global shipping lines to increase container movement to Saudi Arabian gateways, improving export readiness and logistics flow. The move aligns with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, aimed at consolidating the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics hub and elevating operational competitiveness across its ports.
