The Public Investment Fund (PIF), Saudi Information Technology Company (SITE), and Microsoft have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore the delivery of Microsoft’s sovereign-cloud services within Saudi Arabia. This strategic move reinforces the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening data sovereignty, confidentiality, and security, while accelerating access to cutting-edge cloud and AI technologies.
Microsoft, known globally for its strong sovereign-cloud capabilities, currently supports governments and highly regulated industries worldwide in adopting secure cloud solutions aligned with regional laws. Under this new MoU, Microsoft will work closely with PIF and SITE to assess how its sovereign-cloud model can enhance Saudi Arabia’s data residency, compliance, and national cybersecurity priorities.
The collaboration also aims to advance joint research, support innovation initiatives, and expand knowledge transfer programs further enabling Saudi talent and organizations to benefit from next-generation cloud and AI technology.
This initiative aligns closely with PIF’s ICT strategy, which focuses on developing local capacity, enabling high-tech sectors, and positioning Saudi Arabia as a global hub for digital innovation as part of Vision 2030. The MoU remains non-binding and subject to necessary regulatory approvals.
