Saudi Arabia has taken another major step toward strengthening its global supply chain network as Saleh Al‑Jasser officially launched the Logistics Corridors Initiative, a strategic program designed to improve cargo movement and logistics efficiency across the Kingdom’s ports.
The initiative was unveiled in the presence of Suhail Abanmi, Governor of Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA), and Suliman Al‑Mazroua, President of Saudi Ports Authority, along with several officials from government agencies and the logistics sector.
Dedicated Corridors to Strengthen Supply Chains
The Logistics Corridors Initiative aims to establish dedicated operational corridors that allow containers and cargo to be redirected from ports in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Region and other ports across the Gulf Cooperation Council to the Kingdom’s western ports. These shipments will be received primarily at Jeddah Islamic Port and other Red Sea facilities.
By creating these specialized logistics routes, Saudi Arabia seeks to enhance supply-chain efficiency and ensure the smooth movement of goods between ports and regional markets.
Strong Leadership Support for Logistics Development
During the launch, Minister Al-Jasser highlighted the strong backing provided by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Mohammed bin Salman for the Kingdom’s transport and logistics sector.
He emphasized that Saudi Arabia remains committed to maintaining stable supply chains, supporting global trade routes, and facilitating regional markets through advanced infrastructure and efficient logistics services.
Western Coast Ports Play a Strategic Role
According to the Ministry, ports on Saudi Arabia’s western coast—especially Jeddah Islamic Port—play a crucial role in handling shipments redirected from eastern ports and cargo arriving from GCC countries. These ports connect goods to international markets through well-developed maritime trade routes.
Jeddah Islamic Port is currently the largest hub port on the Red Sea, serving as a key logistics center in the region. Saudi ports along the Red Sea collectively have a combined annual capacity exceeding 18.6 million TEUs, enabling them to accommodate increasing trade volumes and shifts in global supply chains.
Enhancing Saudi Arabia’s Global Logistics Position
The initiative reflects the Kingdom’s broader strategy to expand its logistics capabilities and strengthen its role as a global trade and logistics hub. Improved operational corridors will help increase port efficiency, accelerate cargo movement, and improve coordination between customs authorities and logistics operators.
