Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector recorded remarkable growth in 2025, achieving record levels in visitor numbers and tourism spending, according to Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb. The sector has emerged as a key driver of the Kingdom’s economic transformation under Saudi Vision 2030.
Speaking during the ministerial panel titled “When Government Works for Business” at the Public Investment Fund (PIF) Private Sector Forum, Al-Khateeb stated that the tourism sector’s contribution to GDP has increased from 3.5% in 2019 to 5% currently, with a strategic target of reaching 10% in the coming years. Employment in the sector has also exceeded one million jobs, up from approximately 750,000, reflecting tourism’s role as a major job creator.
The minister highlighted that tourism accounts for around 10% of the global economy, emphasizing Saudi Arabia’s focus on local content and strong collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism, the PIF, and private-sector stakeholders. The sector aims to double its GDP contribution from SAR 300 billion to SAR 600 billion, while continuing to create high-quality employment opportunities for Saudi nationals.
Al-Khateeb also noted that the PIF is actively developing world-class destinations such as The Red Sea Project and Qiddiya, creating robust infrastructure and investment opportunities in hotels, entertainment, and tourism experiences. In addition, government incentives and financing support from the Tourism Development Fund are enhancing the business environment and encouraging private-sector participation.
With upcoming international exhibitions and major sports events, Saudi Arabia expects tourism numbers to reach 150 million visitors, reinforcing the Kingdom’s position as a global tourism and investment hub.
